Nikon D700 Is Announced!

nikond700.jpg
The rumors were true! It’s available in July and dpreview already has a hands on preview. I have been waiting for a “5D killer” from Nikon. The D3 is great and all, but its size was too large to carry around on my bike all day. I’m glad that nikon has decided to put the wonderful D3 chip in a smaller body. I haven’t bought a camera since my D70. I am putting my order in tomorrow for sure. I’ll let you know as soon as I get one. Now… What new lens should I buy? Who else is getting one?

Update: I just put my order in at Calumet. They told me that I should have it by the end of the month. Stay tuned for some sweet hands on camera action.

This is good news for me…since I’m expecting a price drop on the D300 now. :)

Looks awesome but a bit too rich for my blood. I’m still with a D70s as well — and I think I’ll bide my time for a cheap gently used D300 from an early adopter this fall.

a guy i work with just got his D3, so today i broke the news about the D700 to him. he’ll likely get one to be his backup… Nikon’s been bringing it hard this year, Canon has some serious catching up to do; i hope they can make similar improvements to high ISO in whatever replaces the 5D [though i've been very happy with mine for the last year and a half]

Nikon’s 85mm 1.4 is a lens I strongly recommend. It’s simply a joy to use, responsive, and the results are beautiful.
