Today I go though Cluster settings from CS Tools. This Tool makes it easy to create symmetrical burst animations with any object.

    nice one Nick,spring has sprung!!

Yeehaa, another great one – Thank you so much. Although your scale down with a null trick didnt work in this case, its a great tip for me, because I always run into this problem…

  3. Mars says:

Nice, going to have to play with this one soon.

Your null is scaling down your cluster null, which is just a bunch of code to control the objects from the limited understanding of Cinema that I have. The scale of it has no effect on the offsets and angles which is what you’d need to adjust to get the look you were looking for.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong here.

Otherwise, problem solving works just fine :)

  4. Karpathia says:

Hi Nick , by mistake you have the wrong scene file for download on this one…

  5. thegorilla says:

Thanks Karpathia! No scene file for this one actually. I took the link off.

  6. Cameradan says:

you can scale in the null or the original cluster using the S: XYZ in the coordinate manager. Although, I believe, its not the same as scaling with the scale tool. Nick’s way is just as easy. I’m a Cinema Beginner. Much of it has to do further down the line when you get into character animation. Can anybody expand on this?

    Scale issue:

2 things. If you change the offsets next to each object it will pull the clusters in closer to the origin. And the null scale will still work I believe you you scale in the right mode. I believe you may have been using the “model tool” (the icon usually above the axis) where it won’t scale correctly in this case. Switch to the “Object Tool” (usually the icon is lower on the bar with the primitives picture) it should scale correctly as you’d expect even without putting it under a null.

Awesome tutorial as usual, Nick! I never thought of nesting a cluster in a cluster. Very nice.

    cheers mate

Quit giving away all the secrets of CS_Tools! Now we will have to come up with creative ideas instead of slapping actionCam in a scene!

    ;)

  11. Julie says:

    Nice!
Is there an expression or something that can do something similar to this in After Effects? Or would this sort of motion have to be key framed by hand?

    • Tomas says:

I know this is old and you have probably already figured this out yourself. But just it case you haven’t, there’s an expression for After Effects called inertial bounce. Look it up, it’s very useful.

  12. thegorilla says:

Julie: I’m sure there is a way to write this script in After Effects. No easy way to do it by hand though.

  13. Tania says:

This tutorial is really helpful, Would you mind doing a tutorial on animating 3D text on Cinema 4D? That would be really great!
    Thanks !

  14. Kyle says:

    Nick,

Amazing Tutorial! VERY useful. I was wondering if it was possible to use this tool to duplicate the objects over a linear area rather then a radial? Thanks!!

  15. Kyle says:

Also……. is there a way to reverse the effect so the objects appear but then disappear as well?? Cheers

  16. Tyler says:

Is there anyway you could show how to install the CS Tools for C4D 11?
I tried adding it through the content browser, and the only way i could get it to work it would just open the .c4d file as an actual scene file and not as the tool itself.

Thanks for the awesome basic Cinema tutorials for us AFX guys wanting more 3D integration.

  17. doug says:

SO far, I am only able to add a primitive object to the cluster tool. I added an object I built, but it just goes invisible.

  18. liam says:

doesnt install in version 11, there is no objects folder in the library,

    is there a work around?

    • Deelan says:

You need to install in the library folder, the object folder is a ref so it can be called anything.

you need another plgin called OLX which allows the CS tools to be viewed.

Check out Nick’s guide for version 11 as this is covered there.

I know this post is old but i just started getting into 3D animation and your videos have been a great help. I was wondering if it is at all possible to slow the speed of the cluster?
