New Five Second Project: “Peanut Butter and Jelly”

April 10, 2009

Awesome turn out and really good work last week for the Your Name Project. This is getting really fun!

This week’s theme is “Peanut Butter and Jelly”. Need an excuse to make something cool this week? Well, now is your chance. Use this theme to make a short motion piece and link it in the comments of this blog post. “Shout Box” submissions will not be found and will not be added to the channel. Please be sure to post a link in this post’s comments to ensure me seeing it.

It’s really great to see so much participation. Tell a friend about the five second projects and get them involved too. Don’t forget to push yourself to try something new every week. What about a new piece of software or technique you have wanted to try?

Bottom line… MAKE COOL SHIT!

Need some more help getting started? Check out my After Effects and Cinema 4D tutorials.

Here are the entries so far…

    hey nick,

cool job man! i haven’t commented here at GSG Blog for a while since I traveled a bit (Stockholm) and then was sick…grrrr….
anyway i went through the recent posts and man you’re doing such a cool job here!
do you think you will keep the 5sec.projects weekly stuff? or maybe 14 days themes after a few rounds…?

i have one idea for a theme – i saw that cool matchbox labels set at flickr page of “maraid” and it could be fun to do some cool shit from the old-school design labels…what do you think?

i have also a question – in terms of scaling in AE – how much do you scale up without worrying about the quality of scaled objects? do AE work like illustrator with the shapes or not? and another question – if you have turned on motion blur for a comp and you have that comp put in another comp – which one needs to have motion blur turned on?

that’s it for today, i’m looking forward to making some cool shit for this theme since i missed the last one…i wanna do something today, we’ll see…

greetings from norway – there is still snow in here, but in two months i’m back in czech republic hopefully with nice weather….see ya

Scaling – for raster graphics 100% is the highest you can scale. Anything past that and you will lose resolution. with vector graphics you can scale as big as you want, just make sure that you have the “continuous raster” button switched on. It’s the small button that looks like a sun next to the layer name in the timeline.

    gene: thanks…

nick: another idea for a week topic – what about making a short piece for some fictional award? the best sausage of the year or the worst haircut of the month, anybody could find his own…i got inspired for that by prologue’s recent work for 81st academy awards…

i don’t know if anybody other has the same experience, but the blog homepage is loading bit slow recent days…maybe just my safari? could it be because of a lot of embedded vimeo videos?

Not too many contributions this week so far. Hmmm. Is the PB&J concept not translating well? Oh well. I’m working on mine. It should be pretty interesting once it’s done.

Good topic. I’ll agree hat it took sometime to try and think of a concept. Did some first time modeling myself on this one. Now it’s doing the renders. Hope they finish so I can piece this up before you move to a new topic. If not I’ll still post. Guess I’m just saying I’ve been in on this one for a few days now and my entry will be up shortly. Peace.
