Check out this great illustrated piece about the creative output of Benjamin Franklin. This schedule (shown above) was quite interesting to me. Notice the big blocks of WORK that led him to his discoveries. Also notice the balance of leisure and sleep that he put into his schedule. Pretty perfect day if you ask me.

This quote from the piece really sums it all up for me.

Everything is invented. Language. Childhood. Careers. Relationships. Religion. Philosophy. The future. They are not there for the plucking. They don’t exist in some natural state. They must be invented by people. And that, of course, is a great thing. Don’t mope in your room. Go invent something.

Is this from one of his books? If so, which one? That dude was a genius in every sense of the word.

Well, they DID have to go to bed earlier back then (lack of light and all) :) . But yes, he was definitely a renaissance man compared to many in his time.

For his time?? He was a renaissance man compared to many more in our time. For those in America, we’re a nation of couch potatoes in large measure. For every inventive mind out there doing constructive things and living a balanced life there are 9 peers who sit around and go through the motions / doing nothing as often as possible. For his time he’s a renaissance man. For our time, given the tools and opportunities we all have, he’d be a certified legend. ;)

Yes, 2 hour lunch, but look what time he gets up. I’d rather take a 30 minute lunch and sleep until 6:30.

Awesomely random. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to examine my day.

Looks like his day revolved around the light from the sun. …. I usually ask my self “what have I done today?” but for different reasons… B.Franks got a leg up on me
