There is nothing like a deadline to get the creative juices flowing. Set a date or it won’t get done.
Have a personal project you started, or a set of photos you keep meaning to put up online? Set up a REAL date on the calendar and do it. Doing things “when I have time” is a great way to make sure it never gets finished.

that’s so true!
but i’m not sure, can you compare a deadline at work with a deadline in your free time? i think not. because let’s say you have set a deadline for your free work and it comes to so much work in your job or an important private thing.. i think you would delay your personal deadline first.

I think it’s just a matter of priorities. Personal deadlines should take priority over everything! Do what you need to do to get them done. Ignore them at your own peril.

yeh I think I’ve done some of my best work last minute. I definitely wouldn’t advise putting off that huge project until the last minute (a lot of times that ends up being a huge headache) but a lot of people work well under pressure simply because you get that adrenaline rush and you’re running with what you simply know and that’s your own style instead of trying a technique that may or may not work.
Especially with personal deadline, I think the other side of the coin here is setting up some kind of result/consequence for yourself if you don’t do it. It’s easy to setup an artificial deadline for yourself but then never follow through with it.

there are some tools for organizing your work (like basecamp, actionmethod, and some others) which i’ve recently started using for my own personal works. Having a dead line in there somewhat makes it feel more “official” and helps me stick to it.

I hadn’t heard of actionmethod so went and looked it up after seeing you mention it. I’ve been looking for something like this but Things and The Hit List look too complicated, like you’d spend more time writing to do lists than actually doing things.

This is so true! Set a deadline! Or just make sure you are busy. If you want something done give it to a busy man!
I love being able to feel good about what I accomplished in the time frame given… could it have been better? Sure. But there’s something to say for getting it done on time and having to be creative within that time frame.
