Five Second Project – “Home Sweet Home”

November 30, 2009

Update: The deadline for this project has passed. The winners will be chosen this week. Stay tuned.

homesweethome2
For this Five Second Project, It’s all about what makes you feel most at home. Just think about what makes you feel happy and riff off of that for your project. It’s time to get a little more personal.

What Are Five Second Projects?
We all want to make cool shit for our demo reel right? Sometimes you just need a theme to get you started… Some rules to fight against. Use the theme “Home Sweet Home” to make a five second motion piece and link it in the comments of this blog post. Please be sure to post a link in this post’s comments to ensure me seeing it. If your new to five second projects, why not check out last week’s theme here.

Rules

  1. 1. The animation can’t be longer than nine seconds. FIVE SECONDS is highly recommended!
  2. 2. The animation must fit the theme.
  3. 3. Only submit animation. Any and all animation forms are accepted (stop motion, hand drawn, cg, 3d, motion design, etc… ). Unmodified, videos will not be accepted, however.

Why Should You Enter? Check out the video…

How Do I Enter my Video?

  • 1. Create a five second animation based on the theme, “Home Sweet Home”.
  • 2. Upload your video to Vimeo. Don’t forget to add a link back to this blog post.
  • 3. Post a link to this posts comment thread and I will add it to the Channel.
  • 4. Deadline is Sunday December 13th

Tell a friend about the five second projects and get them involved too. Don’t forget to push yourself to try something new every week. What about a new piece of software or technique you have wanted to try? Take control of your creative output and Make Cool Shit!

I’m new to the site – great stuff. Here’s a link to my five second video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XecMzyvaZR4. I’m not registered with Vimeo yet. Hope that’s not a problem.
    Thanks,

Nice work Brett. Only Vimeo Videos are allowed in the channel though. Repost a link when it’s up.

Working on this new one! Thanks for the new theme, I’m excited.

Try just working on one instead of two. If you find more time, find ways to make your entry better instead of doing two.

Hey Nick, love the site. Is the theme cross stitch image for Home Sweet Home a 3D render? If it is it would be amazing if you could do a step by step on how you created it. Or at the very least how to get the cloth material and stitching to look so photo realistic. That would be solid.

    The Gorilla

That is actually a photo. hehe. My girlfriend made it. She is selling it soon. I WISH i could render stitching looking that good. :)

Hi Nick & People! this is mine:

Soryy for the length, also learned that making it shorter afterwards is pretty tuff with all the layers :)

    Cheers!.

    The Gorilla

Thanks, Dennie. It is too long for the project however. Try trimming of some of the end. Also, when doing a five second project, try starting with a 5 second comp. That way you wont go over.

Please comment. And, yes, I know the lights flicker. C4D needs a function to “bake shadow/light maps. Would’ve made rendering a lot quicker, too.

    The Gorilla

You should be able to bake that lighting on to the house. Try looking up how to bake textures on the objects.
