Welcome to the final FiveSecondProject of 2009. There are some new rules to keep in mind when submitting your five second project. So, make sure you watch the new videos below before submitting. Can’t wait to see all of the entries! Happy Holidays!

What Are Five Second Projects?
We all want to make cool shit for our demo reel right? Sometimes you just need a theme to get you started… Some rules to fight against. Use the theme “Milk and Cookies” to make a five second motion piece and link it in the comments of this blog post. Please be sure to post a link in this post’s comments to ensure me seeing it. If your new to five second projects, why not check out the Five Second Projects Archive to watch all of the past themes.

New Rules

1. Submissions must be Five Seconds Long!
2. Only animation is accepted. Video only submissions will not.
3. The animations has to do with the theme in some way.
4. Original Work only. Don’t cut out 5 seconds of already made work.
5. Link back to GSG on your Vimeo Post

Why Should You Enter?

1. Try new techniques or software
2. Limitations help get the mind working.
3. Make short, awesome pieces for your reel.
4. Get critique from your peers.
5. Promote yourself.

How Do I Enter my Video?
1. Create a five second animation based on the theme.
2. Upload your video to Vimeo. Don’t forget to add a link back to this blog post.
3. Post a link to this posts comment thread and I will add it to the Channel.
4. Deadline is Sunday December 27th

Watch the videos here, at the vimeo channel, or at the FiveSecondProjects Archive

So you gonna force me to learn Real flow ? Is that it ?? haha just kidding… :)

    illd

That was first thought, too ;)

    Graham Reid

Lol what do you mean by real flow?

    Martin

@Graham: RealFlow is a fluid and particle physics simulation program used to generate realistic water, goo, ice etc. Gabriel and illd were probably thinking to use it for the milk. :)

Realflow is surprisingly easy to learn, but it has… let’s just call them “ticks”. You have to tweak a lot sometimes to get the result you want. :)

    Uwe

If RealFlow’s prices are too much of a whopper, you might want to have a look at the Add-the-Sea plugin for Cinema: http://www.add-the-sea.de/eng/

It’s not as powerful as RealFlow, but impressive on its own.

    illd

Nice tip Uwe,I didn´t know about that plugin…

So dude I really want to do that keyframe intro.

    The Gorilla

Keyframers has been on hold for a few. I wanted to make sure that the show was consistent before I had the contest. I hope to hold it soon though.

    Graham Reid

    what’s keyframers?

    The Gorilla

    Graham Reid

    oh nice =]

So are you allowed to do live action with animation?

    Martin

I think as long as it’s not straight video it’s fine. That’s the impression I got from watching the new rules video. Motion graphics and animation are combined with live footage all the time, so it would make sense.

    The Gorilla

Absolutely! Live action with animation is fine.

Here’s my entry. Figured out the GI seting that keeps things from flickering this time (under GI settings, choose filter type > “Camera Animation”). These are fun, but man, don’t have enough time to make them look they way I want. I think my ideas surpass my abilities…;D
