City Kit for Cinema 4D Demo

I’m really excited to finally be able to show this thing off. Xpresso wizard Chris Schmidt and I have been working on this for quite a few months now, so it’s really exciting that it’s finally here. We built this to be the easiest to use and most photo realistic looking city for cinema 4D while still being fast to render in production. We can’t wait for you to start playing with it and use it in your projects.

4 walls, add lights with different colours (warm tones) and animate the mograph text from under the floor to rise up and move towards camera. this should not be difficult for u to achieve…
      :-)

ps. add the track by adding a sound “track” to your timeline or else in AE post..

Thanks so much for all your hard work Nick and Chris also, don’t ever stop :-D

Also, thanks Nick especially for your last tut, in particular the Xpresso stuff.

It would be nice if the complexity of the tuts here grow with your knowledge and become more advanced…after all the beginner tuts are still here for n00bs!

  41. 6ranit says:

Too(The city on the water) you told us that it takes a little longer too render because it has Anti-Aliasing and Ambient occlusion. The question is do we really need Ambient Occlusion on it? Because the Tower’s would cover the shadows?

  42. Kidsan says:

That’s pretty cool. I was just starting to build one myself last night, now I think I’ll wait and see.

    Good work GSG crew

  50. Ivan Savkov says:

  51. Chris D says:

    Hi Nick
Thank you for this product, it looks really cool and convenient.
I am working on a pretty big project and was supposed to use citygen but it looks like your citykit may be a valid option. I just need to know if in the “text” preset we can use vectors instead of text? Also can we change the look of the letters? i mean is it possible to organize buildings blocks to take the shape of the text or vector? (as we can do in citygen)
    Thanks for your help!

  52. Craig Wall says:

    I don’t think I got a receipt when I purchased…which I’ll need? Did I miss something?

  53. nick ito says:

its saying i am missing some plugins!!!

    • nick ito says:

specifically:several plugins used in this scene are missing.

      plugin ‘Color mapping’ (id 1001194)
      plugin ‘Glow’ (id 1001401)
      plugin ‘Hair Render’ (id 1017325)
      plugin ‘Highlights’ (id 1001402)

this is a paid for broadcast R12

what the hell am i doing wrong?

    • The Gorilla says:

Thanks for the heads up, Nick. Sorry about that. I will fix that in the new version. Those Plugins aren’t being used, so you can just ignore them for now.

    • nick ito says:

ok good to know Nick thanks.

    • AL Davies says:

Yes, thanks for the info. I have Broadcast 12 too and was going to drop you a line about the missing plugs.Great stuff.

  55. Carlos says:

Wow! I’m sure it’ll become an essential Kit for all C4D users in a few months.
How long does A. Occlusion renders take?
Congratulations for what seems one of your best products!

  56. gizmoh says:

looks great so far. is it possible to include custom buildings in the city kit and profit from the engine to populate the buildings in the neighborhood?

  57. Karl-Jason says:

  68. Chris Slowik says:

very excited =] been waiting for a nice alternative to the extremely heavy models i’ve exported from City Engine!

  69. Jon Buckley says:

Ordered and downloaded mine this morning. Haven’t been able to work it yet. Quickie question… is it possible to have cities in footprints other than square? For instance, a circular city, or one that conforms to a naturally shaped body of water?

    • The Gorilla says:

Version 1 is based on a grid for now. But, you May want to look into the “Custom Areas” in the training. They allow you to make the city follow rivers or any shape you give it.

  70. Manny says:

Hi Nick, I bought the kit last night the second the email popped up! I Love it, thank you! One question, in your product shots, the one with using the City Kit preset in blue luminance… Could you please explain how to create something similar to yours, tried but was not able to achieve similar effect. Thank you again for you and Chris great product.

    Kind Regards,
    Manny

    • The Gorilla says:

Hi, Manny. Sorry for missing your comment. We hope to have tutorials out for that look soon. For now, I can say that it was made with luminance on text and Global Illumination. Hope that gets you started in the right direction.

      Cheers,
      Nick

    • Manny says:

Hi Nick, THANK YOU! I appreciate your response, looking forward to those tuts. Thank you for the info as well, I’ll give it a shot.

      Best,
      Manny

  71. Ricardo says:

Hey Nick! I found this at the web:
    http://www.procedural.com/showcases/showcase/ministry-of-sound.html
Can I get some similar result with your city kit?

  72. Anson says:

Downloaded this morning, love this product!
I hope next version can allow me to add some trees objects.

  73. Would be a great idea if you guys setup different types of building ex. New York, London, China, Dubai, Space! :) .

And we can get to choose wich type we want to use!
    :P

  74. B-82 says:

    Wow, looks sick !

  76. JohnBon says:

It would be really useful if there were presets for specific cities such as NYC, Denver, San Fran, Chicago for example. I am for ever getting requests for these background images and buying stock is expensive if you get a good picture at a high resolution.

  77. Sazarret says:

    WOW!
I can’t wait to have it on my grasp!

Really well done job Nick. Congrats.

  78. great stuff nick, very american city style though. i wonder if i will be able to use it with european styled cities…. anyway it is another great UFO in the C4D planet launch by the gorilla.

  79. Benjamin says:

  80. graham says:

    Hey nick

what if i wish to use a certain kinds of building on repeat, example create a row of skyscrapers exactly the same, then a block of suburb blocks 4 x 4. is this kind of detail possible?

does it work with height maps?

  81. fasteddie says:

Bought it! Worth every penny…this is awesome! :-D

  82. Patton77 says:

    Hi Nick

It looks great and could be super-useful, really thinking about buying it.

Can the water animate or is it only for still shots? Also, when we do mograph stuff or motion with city, is there a solution to the GI flickering problem? (like using luminance?)

Hopefully you or Chris can answer quickly because I’d like to buy it tonight…

    Thanks!

    JP

    • Chris says:

The water is a procedural texture so it’s as simple as adding a value to the “Animation Speed” of the noise shader in the bump channel of the water.

The cloners that are used to generate the city are open for you to add whatever effectors you like, so doing mography type motion should be not problem. There will even eventually be some bonus tutorials about neat ways to play with the city, I’m sure I’ll cover that.

GI is not specifically addressed, just like any animation if you set it up properly, there will be no flicker (But likely long render times).

      Hope that helps!

      Chris

    • JP says:

That’s awesome Chris — thanks for the quick reply, you guys are on it with answering things on the blog and I love the community here!

If anyone can reply to this with any links to how to set up GI properly when using mograph, that would help me (and I’m sure some others) immensely — I’m fairly new to Cinema, and I think somehow I got it in in my head to never use GI with mograph due to flickering, and that the only reasonable solution was to use luminance.

      Thanks guys!!!

      JP

PS… going to buy it tonight :)

Bump. Bump. I purchased the app last night and received the download link. I got several e-mails but nothing that included a receipt.

What do I need to do here?

    • The Gorilla says:

      Hi, Craig,
Sorry about the receipt problem. You got the software though, right? We are working on an easy way for everyone to get a receipt. Seems like only people that pay with a credit card didn’t get one. I hope to get you one tomorrow.

      Thanks for getting the kit!

    • Craig Wall says:

Yes, I received the software…just no receipt. I appreciate your note and will look for that soon. Cheers.
