I’m really excited to finally be able to show this thing off. Xpresso wizard Chris Schmidt and I have been working on this for quite a few months now, so it’s really exciting that it’s finally here. We built this to be the easiest to use and most photo realistic looking city for cinema 4D while still being fast to render in production. We can’t wait for you to start playing with it and use it in your projects.

Wow! Speechless, the renders looks outstanding. Great work guys.
Looks realy great! Looking forward to try it out.
Super duper work!
Sweeeet. Render time ?
We optimized the geometry and textures so that the city renders as fast as possible while still looking great. I think you will be surprised by how fast it really is.
I’m sure I will. Looks great.
MoGraph Preset hurts my eyes it looks so good! I’d love to see more style frames + renders of how this might be used for real life projects.
More tuts and renders showing the City Kit in action soon!

That looks sick!! Now were living in an awesome world.
Does it also work with vray ?

whoa. holy shit.
I watched the entire sneak peak of it at the chicago meet up stream, and saw it previewed on the GSG chats, and I think just that one render of the city on the water at night is what sold me on it haha.
Simply Amazing Nick!
iMovie sound effects ftw! But, seriously, the City Kit looks awesome. Can’t wait.
Oh yes! Awesome! I want this one! Can’t wait to try it out, it’ll be interesting to see the pricing for this…. as the other kit’s were priced brilliantly.
A big big thanks to you Nick & to Chris this is gonna be great!!!
WANT!
Now we gonna see that for ages again, right? Pls stick with reason bout that one!
Nevertheless, must have been quite an xpresso chunk.
Awesome, can’t wait to buy this
Looks great been waiting for a new one since CityGen died. That said it now means you won’t be able to move on the web without seeing it featured in every Motion Graphic that’ll be produced for the next 12mths (and mine will be one of them of course
I can not wait to get my hands on this!! looks great!
Chop chop Campbell. I need it.
looking good at first sight – but I would like to see some closeups of the buildings..
Hiiiii Nick, reallyyyy good kit, I reallyyy cant wait to buy it ^_^

I found this video
http://vimeo.com/10659074
plzzz can you healp me, I like to know how to do this animation.
thxxxxxxxxxx
4 walls, add lights with different colours (warm tones) and animate the mograph text from under the floor to rise up and move towards camera. this should not be difficult for u to achieve…
ps. add the track by adding a sound “track” to your timeline or else in AE post..
Can’t wait to see the Gorilla perched atop one of these batting down some planes.
Awesome!
Amazing thinking kit!! I guess it’s most important waiting of month.
really nice looking.
great and photo realistic render Nick
I can’t wait to see 500 bad reels with this
push!
lol, guess it does not take too much time….
Does it work with dynamics?
You bet. Tutorials to come to show you how soon after launch.
so we’ll be able to create moving Paris buildings like in Inception (created by fx team Double Neg) ?
Awesome!
I want it! When is it coming?
fucking shit!!!! awesome!!
can you tell me how to programming the plugin?
or a tutorial for this?
Awesome. Can’t wait to try it!
How do You think about a kind of fallen City – Peset. A kind of ruin-city?
Looking forward to get it soon…
sold.
Awesome work..like others I will buy it, if the pricing is affordable like the other kits I bought here!
Thanks so much for all your hard work Nick and Chris also, don’t ever stop
Also, thanks Nick especially for your last tut, in particular the Xpresso stuff.
It would be nice if the complexity of the tuts here grow with your knowledge and become more advanced…after all the beginner tuts are still here for n00bs!
Too(The city on the water) you told us that it takes a little longer too render because it has Anti-Aliasing and Ambient occlusion. The question is do we really need Ambient Occlusion on it? Because the Tower’s would cover the shadows?
Ambient Occlusion helps add detail into the shadows even above the ground. I think it’s worth it for that render.
That’s pretty cool. I was just starting to build one myself last night, now I think I’ll wait and see.
Good work GSG crew
Hey Nick, looks excellent! Just posted a new project to the Behance Network. In it I used your HDRI Light Kit and have to say I love the OVER/UNDER lighting. Thanks again for your inspirational work.
http://www.behance.net/gallery/Mooky-Wear/998179
how did you do the liquid? I mean, what program?
This is EXACTLY what thousands of CG modelers like me need! Thanks bro!!
did you get this idea from Cinemy City project ?
Wow, it looks incredible. Thanks for putting this together for us Nick, I can’t wait to use it!
Pretty powerful stuff.
I notice it works on a flat plain…. but could this be wrapped around other objects?
Excellent question
It’s easy to do. Change the cloner to object, and distribution to vertex. Rotate as needed. It took 30 seconds to get it working nicely on a sphere.
Nice, good to know.
aehm…totally stupid question but where did you change the ‘distribution to vertex’ can’t follow your step
thx in advance,
cheers
dope! sorry dude, after my cup of coffee i suddenly knew what you meant with distribution, hehe, don’t try anything when you are just awake! sorry for the disturbance
Can’t wait to play with it!
Sweet!! thanks Nick. Gonna be fun to play with.
This package in combination with matte painting will do a great job.
By the way, Nick, get an idea – make tutorial for matte painting.
Hi Nick
Thank you for this product, it looks really cool and convenient.
I am working on a pretty big project and was supposed to use citygen but it looks like your citykit may be a valid option. I just need to know if in the “text” preset we can use vectors instead of text? Also can we change the look of the letters? i mean is it possible to organize buildings blocks to take the shape of the text or vector? (as we can do in citygen)
Thanks for your help!
I don’t think I got a receipt when I purchased…which I’ll need? Did I miss something?
its saying i am missing some plugins!!!
specifically:several plugins used in this scene are missing.
plugin ‘Color mapping’ (id 1001194)
plugin ‘Glow’ (id 1001401)
plugin ‘Hair Render’ (id 1017325)
plugin ‘Highlights’ (id 1001402)
this is a paid for broadcast R12
what the hell am i doing wrong?
Thanks for the heads up, Nick. Sorry about that. I will fix that in the new version. Those Plugins aren’t being used, so you can just ignore them for now.
ok good to know Nick thanks.
Yes, thanks for the info. I have Broadcast 12 too and was going to drop you a line about the missing plugs.Great stuff.
WOW!!! finally. Getting it tonight when I’m home.
I’m very excited about this. Thanks for the great work Nick.
Wow! I’m sure it’ll become an essential Kit for all C4D users in a few months.
How long does A. Occlusion renders take?
Congratulations for what seems one of your best products!
Nick had a tutorial on AO renders and settings a few months ago. the tutorial on the Disc channel block transition.
looks great so far. is it possible to include custom buildings in the city kit and profit from the engine to populate the buildings in the neighborhood?
Bravo sir! Already got a great idea for how to use this! And, if you don’t already, SUBSCRIBE to the newsletter – you will NOT regret it!
The blue-tinted city kit text image made me go: “BWAAHHH!!!!”

Hi Nick
Will be buying this today, cant wait! i am running 11.5 at the moment but will be upgrading to 12 in the next couple of months hopefully, will this affect the plugin?
Cheers
Should work fine. Was created in 11/11.5 and I believe Nick has been doing tests in R12.
Excellent, have purchased it already, cant wait to have a play, great job from both of you!
Thanks
WOW! Looks very cool and super detailed. Cant wait to play with it!
keep up the awesome job guy’s!
Maxon ought to rename it: GSG4D!
For all that you do for them, Nick.
Great!
Best,
J
oh gorilla, you’re so huge that we should call you “king kong” ! you could model you at the top of the higher building !
have a nice day
Argh… Guess I’ll have to pay full price, my bank account is blocked for 2 days…
Non the less, excellent job, as ever…
Can you use your own models in it?
Yes you can! There is a tutorial for how to add in a single building exactly where you want it, and another for how to add your own buildings into the mix of building it chooses from.
Oh that’s sweet, now i’m interested
.
Where is the tutorial to add your own building/object?
It’s included with the City Kit download under “training”. Let me know if you find it.
as soon as I get home and find out if I’ve got the requirements (fingers crossed) I’m getting it!
Just bought the city kit and can’t wait to try it out tonight.
very excited =] been waiting for a nice alternative to the extremely heavy models i’ve exported from City Engine!
Ordered and downloaded mine this morning. Haven’t been able to work it yet. Quickie question… is it possible to have cities in footprints other than square? For instance, a circular city, or one that conforms to a naturally shaped body of water?
Version 1 is based on a grid for now. But, you May want to look into the “Custom Areas” in the training. They allow you to make the city follow rivers or any shape you give it.
Hi Nick, I bought the kit last night the second the email popped up! I Love it, thank you! One question, in your product shots, the one with using the City Kit preset in blue luminance… Could you please explain how to create something similar to yours, tried but was not able to achieve similar effect. Thank you again for you and Chris great product.
Kind Regards,
Manny
Hi, Manny. Sorry for missing your comment. We hope to have tutorials out for that look soon. For now, I can say that it was made with luminance on text and Global Illumination. Hope that gets you started in the right direction.
Cheers,
Nick
Hi Nick, THANK YOU! I appreciate your response, looking forward to those tuts. Thank you for the info as well, I’ll give it a shot.
Best,
Manny
Hey Nick! I found this at the web:
http://www.procedural.com/showcases/showcase/ministry-of-sound.html
Can I get some similar result with your city kit?
Right now the City Kit is based off of a city grid system. But, we are already working on future versions that will have more flexibility to follow curves like this.
Downloaded this morning, love this product!
I hope next version can allow me to add some trees objects.
Would be a great idea if you guys setup different types of building ex. New York, London, China, Dubai, Space!
.
And we can get to choose wich type we want to use!
Wow, looks sick !
remind of this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpGvP0gce4s
you should really watch it
It’s terrific and with some post you can have some awesome results.
http://mastajappa.wordpress.com/2011/02/15/thanks-for-the-city-kit/
Awesome render, mate!
haha Jasper, nice one, got it myself too, am working on a visual with it now, will try to post it on my lsslss.nl site soon.
It would be really useful if there were presets for specific cities such as NYC, Denver, San Fran, Chicago for example. I am for ever getting requests for these background images and buying stock is expensive if you get a good picture at a high resolution.
WOW!
I can’t wait to have it on my grasp!
Really well done job Nick. Congrats.
great stuff nick, very american city style though. i wonder if i will be able to use it with european styled cities…. anyway it is another great UFO in the C4D planet launch by the gorilla.
Hey, I bought the CityKit 2 hours ago.
I love it.
Here are my first results:

Hey nick
what if i wish to use a certain kinds of building on repeat, example create a row of skyscrapers exactly the same, then a block of suburb blocks 4 x 4. is this kind of detail possible?
does it work with height maps?
Bought it! Worth every penny…this is awesome!
sometimes i wish i would use 3d max

Hi Nick
It looks great and could be super-useful, really thinking about buying it.
Can the water animate or is it only for still shots? Also, when we do mograph stuff or motion with city, is there a solution to the GI flickering problem? (like using luminance?)
Hopefully you or Chris can answer quickly because I’d like to buy it tonight…
Thanks!
JP
The water is a procedural texture so it’s as simple as adding a value to the “Animation Speed” of the noise shader in the bump channel of the water.
The cloners that are used to generate the city are open for you to add whatever effectors you like, so doing mography type motion should be not problem. There will even eventually be some bonus tutorials about neat ways to play with the city, I’m sure I’ll cover that.
GI is not specifically addressed, just like any animation if you set it up properly, there will be no flicker (But likely long render times).
Hope that helps!
Chris
That’s awesome Chris — thanks for the quick reply, you guys are on it with answering things on the blog and I love the community here!
If anyone can reply to this with any links to how to set up GI properly when using mograph, that would help me (and I’m sure some others) immensely — I’m fairly new to Cinema, and I think somehow I got it in in my head to never use GI with mograph due to flickering, and that the only reasonable solution was to use luminance.
Thanks guys!!!
JP
PS… going to buy it tonight
Looks awesome & absolutely convincing renders too , this is mighty impressive dudes!
Looks good man….
here’s the FREE 3DS Max equivalent of this

Nice job to everyone involved.

Andy
Snapped it up, already having a great time with it!

Bump. Bump. I purchased the app last night and received the download link. I got several e-mails but nothing that included a receipt.
What do I need to do here?
Hi, Craig,
Sorry about the receipt problem. You got the software though, right? We are working on an easy way for everyone to get a receipt. Seems like only people that pay with a credit card didn’t get one. I hope to get you one tomorrow.
Thanks for getting the kit!
Yes, I received the software…just no receipt. I appreciate your note and will look for that soon. Cheers.
=D happy costumer here…it is quite stunning! Can’t wait to play more with it!!
Also payed with a cc so I didn’t get my receipt yet either.
Cheers!!
Send me an email. I’ll make sure that you get it. So glad you like the kit!
How are you all already get the plugin? I can’t find it anywhere!
jk i found it
Got the Kit and I am very happy with my first few hours of playtime. Quick tip: usinge one of GSGs color studios from the HDRI Kit produces some really cool results.
