Looks good. Bit of texture kit in there?

  2. Richard Williams says:

Totally diggin’ those textures… gonna be a sweet tut. Thanks GSG!

  3. nice depth of field use in the image

  4. Deon says:

    nice work nick!!!

  5. Fabio Arnold says:

I think it´s easy to create but for what i´m more interested in is the nice material texture of the back, looks like the inside of a car

    • Ronny says:

That’s actually most of what Nick’s tutorials are about. The ‘how it works’ or ‘how it’s done’ is mostly only half of the tut. He always spends lots of time ‘making it look sexy’ as he eloquently puts it ;)

  6. barton damer says:

Please tell me your are going to use dynamics to animate that chain dropping!

  7. cybergraphicartist says:

super duper like! all tutorials are helpful a lot! from KSA

  10. Julian Orozco says:

    Awesome!!

  11. Ronny says:

    This looks good, Nick.
    Mighty interested how it’s done.
I’m wondering though: Will you also always give a little rundown about how you did a texture (similar to the way you always explain how people without the lightkit can light there scenes similar to yours)? (I ask this because I presume you’ll be using the Texture Kit in here)
    Might be very interesting :)
Really looking forward to this one!

  12. Si says:

Beautiful render! Sweet texturing and lightning! It’s an ideal promo for the new packs! Tempting!

  13. Jan says:

Looking sexy! Cant wait for the tut!

  14. James says:

Love the leather texture. Dog tag looks a little computer generated. Other than that, looks really good!

    • KF says:

Feel the same for the dog tag and lighting seem a bit weird, the blue/left part feels right but the right side is kinda too red for me.
The leather texture is really nice anyway.

  15. V8 says:

Nice one, reminds me one of my first render in C4D (not as sexy though)

Can’t wait to compare your method with mine !

Can’t wait to I see your approach.

    • Matt says:

Nice, would be great if the camera followed along the chain from tag to tag. A little roll as well for a more organic motion. Good work.

  25. Jascha says:

Wow man, looking gooood. Looking forward to the tutorial. Thanx Nick :)

  26. Polo- says:

Looks awesome man, looking forward to this tutorial:)

  27. Markus says:

    Boole + Cloner i guess? :P

    • Ant says:

Rectangle spline with rounded edges imo. Duplicate it, use one as a sweep for the rounded bit and extrude one for the main bulk ;)

  28. Heart Shaped Box says:

I really hope Nick is going more into the depth of field effect in this tut. I’m still wondering how to set it up correctly :D

    Hey Nick,

That looks very nice! What I’ve always wanted to ask: can you have for your future tutorials provide the project files to download with? It would help me. other visitors and I think your page would appreciate this too.

  40. oni says:

    hi Nick,

    i see 2 little things:

    - no bevel in the hole
    - a bit too perfect metal

  41. showbizzAG says:

Perfect lighting, render settings, texturing, d.o.f. as ever.. One thing the hole seems to be very sharp.. but thats all and hey I love the look.. Congratulations! This is my first time I comment you but I follow you about 1 and a half year.. And I hope to follow you a long long time in the future! Keep up the good work! Greetings from Germany

    Nick,
Could you please explain how to activate the multi axis movement tool (the little angle thingy between axis)
    Thank you

  49. DigitalS says:

Is this using a bump on the material? You said something about a bit of photoshop in there. In my work placement at a studio they were using Lightwave 3D and a bump was created from a back and white image which created the logo. Might not be right but that could be one of the ways :P

  50. Also found some time to do a version, although the setup is a bit different:

  55. storm says:

Are you modeling with the Boole? that makes it very easy :D

  56. CyrilK says:

    Hi Nick

While surfing the net, looking for new HDRI, etc LIGHT, I
came across a website that offers your Light Kit Pro under a different name
and with some variations in your products. Here’s the link:

    http://lightingup.pl/?page_id=13

    Thank you:)

    • The Gorilla says:

      Thanks for the heads up.

      • CyrilK says:

Let me know. The one friend who I have this pack, and it really is not complete and much less intuitive. Unlike like it leaves entirely to be wished “LightingUP”. Just sorry my English I am French and I was only sixteen when my level is average. And yes you are known in France and by many people who use C4D. Thanks

    • Mr Rayne says:

:) … Y’know, Cyrilk – incredibly other people also happen to produce and sell studio lighting kits for C4D also. One wouldn’t believe such a thing even possible, I know – but it happens.

LightingUP isn’t Nicks Light Kit Pro – and to state as such that it is is somewhat unfair to Mark, the chap who put it together.

      Not to mention gross misrepresentation.

Actually it’s a very good, very well put together package, for anyone interested – well layed out, easy to use – makes interesting interesting uses of Mograpgh which means you can fully customize each rig-set up with ease – and, of course, all fully animatable.

Can’t quibble with the price either – you get a fair amount of stuff for you buck.

Assuredly worth checking out, I’m certain Nick will agree.

Hope that helps clear things up some.

      • Mark says:

Well put Rayne. That kit looks really useful.

        • Mr Rayne says:

          Believe me, my pleasure.

And, yes. It is. Handy little piece of kit that actually does the job. Needed saying.

The poor sod making it – the instant it went on sale earlier last week – 4 sales in and the next thing he knew the product got jacked. Had a rough enough few days of it as it is without being accused of plagiarism to boot.

It is though definitely worth checking out and, as I say – when it comes to the price one can hardly quibble.

  57. Tommeh says:

    Great depth of field look!

I tried to make this – and I succeeded, yet, I wanted to “beat up” the dog tag, and the scratches only appears on the edges of the object and it looks a bit “funny”.

    Any advice?

Can’t wait until this tutorial gets published.

  58. Daniel R. says:

    Great, Nick.
    my attempt: http://666kb.com/i/bupkrpkmcpb0na2nr.jpg
