Closed: Frog View

What in the hell is Frog View? We have all seen it in the Camera Menu in Cinema 4D, but what the hell does it do? Let’s try to make something cool with it. If we can’t, maybe we can finally take it the heck out of the menu. Don’t have Cinema 4D? That’s ok. Feel free to make any animation based on the theme, Frog View.
What Are Five Second Projects?
We all want to make cool shit for our demo reel right? Sometimes you just need a theme to get you started… Some rules to fight against. Is this view available in R11.5 as well?
The Gorilla
Yeppers.
Yusuf
so, is it a C4D users’ competition only? or this view can be achieved in other 3D apps ?
The Gorilla
You can try to do something similar in your 3D app. Or, you can use the theme “Frog View” any way you want.
jakob
dude the frog-view is only avail in c4d
Noah
@Mark
Yes it is available in 11.5. Just go to view, click “camera”, a drop down menu will appear with all the camera angles… including Frog
edwin
This is only for C4D users?

Guilherme Todorov
Nick you better put some more text to explain this, or you will get more about 3534874 comments asking “It’s only for C4D users?”
What I understood is that you can get the concept behind the frog view and do whatever you want with the idea, right?
The Gorilla
Yep. As always, you can do whatever you want with the theme. I will add some more to the description. Good idea.
Ronny
Intriguing! I dig this spin on things! I’ve never played with this so this is a kickstart to learn something new. Nice one, Nick!
MarkW
Been looking forward to this, missed the last project by a few days. Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!
Hamilton
I don’t see how people are confused. We’ve all heard the terms “Bug Eye View”, “Worms View” “Birds Eye View” and we all know what perspective and angle of view we would expect to imagine when these terms are used.
So in any App you want, or even shooting with a real camera do something that represents what a Frog View means to you. Is it low to the ground looking up? Is it bulgy fish eye distortion? is it even in colour. Use your imagination folks and stop taking themes so literally or as only being specific to 1 software application.
Regardless of this being a camera view in C4D this theme could have just as easily been called Horse View, or Nerd View.
Bjorn
this theme is actually confusing. there’s a screenshot of the frog view in c4d and it has nothing to do with the real frog view.
And why is this view so little known in c4d? Because there is no use for me. It’s like military view but too distorted to work with.
Sorry Nick, but it’s the first theme which is strange and not really inspiring to me
The Gorilla
Sorry Bjorn. I know it’s a weird one. It came from a conversation about what the hell that view is for and how to use it. I thought it was time to find out.
Arnar
I just checked out what this frog view in cinema 4d is… I’m gonna have to do some serious brainstorming with this one
Filipe Patrocínio
Frog view!! He he what a theme, got to check out C4D for what it is. Count me in
Jake

Hope to see you again with new tues, Mike!

I’m looking forward to take part of the project … Did anyone realized that vray for c4d doesn’t like frog-perspektive?
CMYK
I can’t even find the frog-view option in R12 D:
Can anyone help me out?
CMYK
Nevermind, just found it ^^
Skip McGovern
Enough of your ugly hipster mug! Seriously are you that in love with your goofy face that you have to plaster it all over every single image?!?!? Just once, please, show us a pic or a movie without your lazy, nonplussed, hipster douchebag face!
The Gorilla
I would recommend you stop coming to my site if you don’t like the look of my face. I tend to put it everywhere as you can tell. Hehe. See ya never. (Waves Goodbye)
Steven
Wow, Skip. Way to take time out of your busy male-modeling schedule to make such a mature comment that doesn’t at all scream, “I’m angry, ugly, and jealous”.
Maybe next time you make such an idiotic statement, you can show your own face and website instead of hiding like coward.
Brandon
What’s the deal with this guy? Did he really think posting this comment would change anything? Like you’re going to cater to his weird demands.
Side note: please post only pickle-related material from now on.
Dave Koss
Wow. What’s up with that guy? He knows he’s free to visit or not visit the site, right?
Noah
Skip, you just jot BURNED!

Frog view is a more warped version of Isometric view. Isometric format is an 1:1:1 XYZ format, where Frog view is 1:2:1 XYZ…so it’s a bit more lengthened in the Y direction.
S3B
Je relève le défis !
let’s talk about something else :
do you plan a tuto about cell shading Nick ?
The Gorilla
I hope to have a Sketch and Toon tutorial up one of these days for sure.
Zictor
Now this would be something I would be very interested in!!! I’ve had a play with it and it’s rather good but I want to get a nice polished look like Futurama, or Family Guy when they use Cars and things.
S3B
@Gorilla : thx Dude, i hope too
@Zictor : i also played with skecth and toon but withiut knowing what i do
here’s my tries :

The frog view in C4D is really bizar, as it looks totally different from what’s commonly known as a “frog’s view camera angle”.
And if it supposed to be just that, then they have some seriously acid-trippin humongous frogs in Maxon’s backyard!
fedelpeye
hell… this is going to be painfull…
the frog view its quite complicaded, its like a perspective view but longer y the Y axis. It does not have any conection to my imaginary of frog view (ground view). Its more like a Flyng Frog with astigmatism.
And if you make a camera with this view is imposible any kind of rotation.
PAINFUUUULLLLLL
Dave Koss
A) Nice use of a constraint to really get everyone thinking.
and
B) I have been waiting on this for a while. Excited!
Brandon Bell
Wow thanks Nick, tutorials and assignments!
TheWho
NOPE. This won’t do. I’ll keep trying.

I dont use c4d, i use 3ds max, can you describe how frog view works and can i use pics in the 5 seconds animation composition?
Mark
see link in above post
Ryan D
wow i am really stumped on how this view could be of any good are help. this should be interesting.
Thorbjørn
I think you have a nice face, and awesome tutorials. Keep up the good work.
Adam
Hummm tricky, I dont dout my the ability to come up with something that looks good using frog view. But to think of a idea that leavers the mechanic of the frog view is something else; I like isometric views but I wanna come up with something that uses the squash.
Luc Reinders
Hi Nick,
How many entries can I send in?
therocketpanda
I believe only one submission!
lucky you!
You mean you have more than one idea to work with this view?
therocketpanda
…and by the way, I wish I had a little spare time so I could work on this FSP too…
Luc Reinders
Oh yea, I do habe more ideas
JKanto
I don’t have C4D. Are there any informative images about what the frog view in C4D looks like? The link by TheWho doesn’t help that much.
The Gorilla
Truthfully, I don’t think anybody has ever used it or know what it does. Thats kind of the idea behind this theme.
Mark
Only watched one submission so far, nearly finished mine! Although I think I might have taken the title of this project a little too literal..
Matteo
Hi everyone, first 5 seconds project

I dont know what the deal is, but this channel has shown to have 0 video this whole time. Anyone know if I have some kind of settings wrong somewhere?
Christian Hoffmann
I think there’s no “deal”. Maybe he’s earning some money and when he’s back on his machine he’ll maybe add the videos to the channel. No hurry, … We all win our Million dollars
