This video about creativity really inspired me when it came out around 2003-2004 or so. It really stuck with me and helped make the creative process seem much less intimidating. I came across it again on Vimeo recently and just had to sit and watch it again. It’s just as relevant today as it was when it came out. Take time to check it out and let me know what you think.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone! I made this video card especially for you to say thanks for being a part of the Greyscalegorilla community. I really appreciate every one of you who come watch tutorials, write comments, and hang out here on this little site of mine. This place wouldn’t be what it is without you!
A HUGE thanks to all of you who have helped Greyscalegorilla over this last year. It’s been a fun one. Happy holidays to all of you. Here is to another great year of learning and fun!

People always ask what plugins I use with After Effects. These are what I consider essential plugins for my work including After Effects, Photoshop, Motion Design workflow. What are your favorite plugs?
My Essential Plugins From Red Giant
Trapcode’s plugins are the most used in my compositing and animation tool kit because they are so versatile, easy to use, fast to render, and great looking.
If your bonkers and don’t want to get the entire Trapcode Suite, here are the Trapcode plugins I use the most.
Particular is one of those plugins that always seems to solve a bunch of different problems. It’s made to be a great particular generator, but I’ve used it over the years for everything from bouncing balls, falling leaves, stars, smoke, dust, snow, rain, and ink. Best of all, this thing renders FAST.
Here are some renders where I used Trapcode Particular.
Disco Holiday (Used for tons of snow shots)
You want that final render looking sexy? Run a pass of Trapcode Starglow over that puppy and you’re all set. As with a lot of plugins, a little goes a long way. Starglow adds sparkle to the highlights of your renders to give it that glowing effect. This looks beautiful in 32 bit by the way!
Here are some renders where I used Trapcode Starglow.
Magic Bullet Looks
Magic Bullet Looks is a great way to quickly color correct your project. I have always said “Your renders are never finished straight from Cinema 4D”. Color correction is not an option, folks! Photos, footage, Animations and Renders all must be color corrected to make them look their best. Magic Bullet Looks makes this as quick and beautiful as possible.
Nick Campbell’s Vintage Film For Looks
Yep, I used Magic Bullet enough to make my own preset pack for it. I made it to give your projects a timeless vintage feel inspired by real film looks.
Here are some videos where I used Vintage Film For Looks.

Introducing HDRI Studio Pack
Hi, everyone! I’m really excited to launch my new lighting product called HDRI Studio Pack. It’s made to help you render perfect product shots very quickly. It includes over 50 HDR Images captured from professionally lit 3D studios. you can see examples and more at the product page.
As with all my products, if you try it and you don’t like it. Just send me an email and I will give a full refund. I have a feeling you will love it.
As always, I would love to hear what you think. Please, leave any questions or comments about the product in the comments. I will be sure to answer them.
If you have been following GSG lately, you may have noticed that I have gone a bit crazy for Global Illumination and image based lighting. IBL is a simple way to light you scene by using pre-made images instead of 3D lights. After playing more and more with this technique, I realized that this would work REALLY great for product shots. So, with all this new knowledge, I set off to make a product that will make it super simple to light your product shots and make them look beautiful. I’m calling it HDRI STUDIO PACK.
It’s made so you can easy bring in a model, add a Seamless Floor and pick an HDRI image to along with it. You then have all the controls you need to make the product look beautiful and hit render.
The best part are the over 50 HDRI images included with the Pack. These HDRI images are images of actual studios that I built in cinema 4D. I set up popular studio setups and baked them into HDRI images so that you could use them too!
I will have much more news about this pack as the week continues. For now though, check out the video above and the examples below and let me know what you think!
Renders Made With The Pack
I’m getting ready to do a big Global Illumination Tutorial for Cinema 4D and I wanted to give you guys a sneak peek in to what we will be creating. It’s based on this awesome piece called Let There Be Light by Jeff Osborne. His great render shows the power, beauty, and accuracy of using Global Illumination in your still 3D renders. Tutorial coming soon!
