ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 01

00:02:15 Rigging up a floating “rainbow road” like racetrack. Complete with how to get cars to travel the track.
00:39:35 Sending ripples through a series of rings. There is a fun demonstration of being able to feed in falloff based effectors even when they all the axis are in the same location!
01:10:42 Playing with Gears and Connectors. Translating rotation motion into positional movement. We bounce around a bit, but there are some fun tidbits.
01:59:05 Looking back at the gears and dynamics from back when R16 came out.
01:59:46 Transitioning from one type of displacement to another with a bonus effect in the middle. A good technique that can be applied in a lot of places!

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 02

00:00:20 We tackle a few different approaches to getting some objects to float up off the floor. Hit a couple of odd dynamic snags.
00:30:20 Getting a paper cutout look using splines.
00:51:05 “Rigging” a 2D face. Constraining the eyes, making them scale as it travels side to side. Basic mouth morphs.
01:13:15 Subdividing text for deformation.
01:18:12 Testing how hair collides with geometry. Don’t really get much in the way of info.
01:22:31 Basic of PolyFX FEAT: SuperText
01:28:40 Modeling low poly stylized monster Truck. Pretty fun one with lots of modeling.

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 03

00:00:27 Nice long segment talking mainly about procedural noises and a reflectance (physical) workflow in C4D. We spend some time in photoshop too doing a bit of post.
01:19:07 Making a particular type of stylized shattered glass. Think we nail it.
01:35:11 A transition from very low poly to higher poly look. Pretty neat.
01:47:46 We try and tackle some puffy/inflated cloth look but get pretty stumped.

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 04

00:00:21 We FINALLY get a flipping clock mechanism to work! Pretty fun dynamics.
00:56:49 A couple a quick tips on getting lines to trace the surface of an object.
01:10:32 Fake collapsing of a house to be played in reverse to look like it’s building. Not the best one.
01:20:50 Lots of ways to work with more complex fog in vanilla C4D
01:38:12 Failed attempt as a web-like organic spiral

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 05

Lots of topics tackled!

00:00:40 An effect like gold embroidery. Mostly splines and metaballs!
00:14:52 Figuring out how to get a series of clones to aim by bending toward a target.
00:28:17 Dropping an object into cloth to get to to wrap around the object. Don’t get too far on that, but at the end we play with how nice turbulence looks with the new noise falloff.
00:42:14 Tauntaun guts! This is a really fun one and turns out perfect for what we were aiming for.
01:05:37 As parametrically possible, model some bamboo.
01:29:20 Series of strings that avoid touching each other. We hit the ‘Boole limit’ on this.
01:47:00 Making an object look chipped, dinged, or eroded away revealing the layers underneath as if it was a made of a series of stripped layers. We get really stumped several times until I finally remember the quick way to do it at…
02:06:44 … with just a few noises.

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 06

00:01:18 Volume of XParticles, sadly we crash right when we’re getting to the good stuff. At 11:47
00:11:47 Opening a second copy of C4D to continue working while you hope another file recovers.
00:13:49 Talking about how we might go about making a S&T style image, but just talk.
00:16:42 Inflating an object to fill a ‘room’, slightly taking on it’s form.
00:48:48 Popping a text balloon. Spend some time prepping text for proper popping.
01:06:21 Modeling a hex filled sphere.
01:15:12 Pastel floaty-shapy things with lots of blurry transparency.
01:25:20 Some cloth collapsing tests. Not amazing, but better than I thought we’d get.
01:41:17 Drippy XP water droplets with a heavy depth of field. Drops work well, Depth not so much.

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 07

00:00:19 Super fun ‘3d printer fabric’ question. We make a pretty parametric rig to make dynamic ridged body cloth.
01:24:01 “living” blood drops. A bit of XP fun
01:56:40 Gorillacam!

00:42:00 Splats of paint with Particles and Proximal
01:10:03 Scribble lines! We have some trouble with the coloring though.
01:24:42 Slow moving sculpture ’splash’ with XParticles

ASK GSG SEASON 4: EPISODE 10

00:01:19 Combining multiple bumps
00:07:55 Quickly modeling internal structure and details into a model and having it build on. Fun one!
00:38:14 “Plugs” bumping into a surface and the surface reacting.
00:50:00 Feeding hay into a machine with hair. Works pretty dang well. Small crash, but we don’t lose much.
01:20:50 Smashing and denting objects, but you’re better off watching https://greyscalegorilla.com/tutorials/smash-a-van-with-plastic-deformation-in-cinema-4d/
01:26:40 Flowing lines of energy. We push it as far as we can, but doesn’t match the effect too closely.
