Nick Campbell Interview On The Blender Guru Podcast

July 14, 2015 - By

I recently had a great discussion with Andrew Price on the Blender Guru Podcast. During the interview we talk about how to learn faster by having more focus, why everyone should make at least one tutorial, why you don’t need to be an expert in all aspects of 3D, and how to get free ice cream. Give it a listen and let me know if you think I should do more podcast interviews?

Greyscalegorilla Live In Las Vegas

April 11, 2015 - By

It’s time for NAB again. But if you can’t make it to Las Vegas, don’t worry. Maxon will be streaming ALL the presentations at C4DLive. Stop by the page today to check the schedule and see all the great presenters this year.

There are three, thats right THREE presentations from GSG this year!

First, be sure to stop by Monday at 11:30 PST to see my presentation about how to choose the right lighting for your next Cinema 4D project. I will be going through tons of examples and scene files from my hard drive. Everything from Cartoon Looks to GI and BRDF.

Then, on Wednesday, Chris and I will be doing AskGSG LIVE from the NAB floor at 11:30 PST. This is where we need your help. If you have a question you wan’t answered live at NAB, send a question to @GSG3D and include the hashtag, #ASKGSG. We could pick your question to answer live from the show floor. Should be fun!

Finally, GSG at NAB continues on Thursday at 11:30 PST with an hour from Chris all about Softbody Dynamics. Chris has been learning a TON about this powerful feature and is excited to show you everything he has been learning. If you have seen Chris’ presentations in the past, you know that they are PACKED full of great tips and tricks.

Hope to see you on the stream!

Nick Campbell Q&A at SLC Motion Graphic Meetup

March 27, 2015 - By

I stopped by the Salt Lake City Motion Graphics Group during my road trip to do answer some questions and wave my hands around. It ended up being a very honest discussion about the history of GSG, The philosophy of making tutorials, and why A+ school work isn’t good enough.

Thanks to the group for inviting me out and asking all these great questions. I hope you enjoy it.

Oh yeah, Remind me to get longer T-Shirts to wear next time.

Greyscalegorilla and Chicago C4D are proud to present Half Rez 2013. We started Half Rez last year to bring together 3D and 2D artists, animators and designers for a night of learning, drinking and hanging.

This year we have some great things planned including presentations by local Chicago artists, free food, and a great venue at Haymarket Brewpub in Chicago’s West Loop area. Sign up at our official Half Rez page and let us know you are coming so we can plan properly as far as food and stuff. This year’s Half Rez is graciously sponsored by Maxon and other sponsors are confirming soon. Last year was really a lot of fun. We hope to see you there.

Creative Mornings Chicago

February 13, 2013 - By

I was honored to speak at Creative Mornings Chicago last month. I talked a bit about my first job, trying to get closer to 99% happy, how MK12 got me into all this, being the worst in the room, my leap from client work to personal projects, and a quick story about how I ended up with my name on a pinball machine.

Thanks to Mig, Trunk Club, the film crew, and everyone who helped out that morning. Thanks so much for having me.

How To Build an Audience For Your Work By Helping Those Around You

July 30, 2012 - By

I had an opportunity to speak at the Vimeo Festival earlier this year with Philip Bloom and Blake Whitman about how to build an audience for your work. We are all making stuff (you are making stuff, right?), but showing off your work and getting it in front of the right audience can be tough. In this talk, Philip and I discuss how to grow and maintain an audience of people that are interested in what you do. Not by spamming. Not by doing market research. But, by being authentic to your passions and by helping those around you.

Much of what I had to say I have learned directly from the last few years playing and sharing here at Greyscalegorilla. I hope it’s helpful to your career and to your work.
