Capturing and Setting Up Camera Calibration in Cinema 4D Part 2

In part 2 of this tutorial, we get more detailed into modeling the scene by adding separate garage doors to animate. Then, we add the spheres using an emitter and light the scene using Softboxes. Finally, we prepare the scene for render and hop into After Effects to finish and composite the final scene.

    The cursor position/delete issue you were having is resident in R13 too, it gets me every time!!

    About the moving doors and projecting texture on them. Would it have worked via baking the texture for them? Haven’t tried that, just as idea.

  • Thank you for another great tutorial! The camera calibration tool is just amazing. It makes it so much faster to do projection. I used to think Projection Man was as fast as it gets but this saves so much time splitting the image up in Photoshop. Really great addition by Maxon!

  • Hi Nick, the lesson interesting, liked, but about the Splits have a plugin that removes unnecessary polygons and makes optimization. Unfortunately built Splits can not do that.

    i’m just curious of where else this camera calibration can be used? Is it only for stills? If want to add 3d object into live footage should i use just 3d mapping & tracking or try to use camera calibration for that

    Great work again, mate! Always lots of good stuff to learn from you and Chris!

    Just as a suggestion: I think an area shadow in your point light would help a lot on selling the concept. The down side of relying on GI and AO do all the heavy work in your lighting is that you don’t get a lot of interaction in your reflection and specular with all the movement in the scene. For example, there’s a nice shadow being draw by the big wall in the right hand side crossing your sign, but it goes behind it, not in front of it. Or maybe that could be tricked in AE with a little mask… Just my 2 cents!

  • I was thinking about the angle of the loading bay ramp and that the balls should spill out but then roll back down and sort of “pool” at the lowest point. Are the dynamics reading this angle of the driveway?
    Otherwise, I’ll say I’ve sort of played on and off with C4D since it came bundled with FCP 1 – but that lights, textures and noise were always kind of hard to grasp and pretty frustrating. Cineversity and books didn’t really make it easier… Coming from a film background, I think this latest version and the rigs you’ve created are a major breakthrough. (It’d be interesting to hear how you made all these rigs!) Thanks to both you and Chris for the interesting tuts!
