How to Create 2D Cartoon Cloud Poofs in Cinema 4D

May 1, 2015

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create fun, cartoon style 2D cloud puffs of smoke using Cinema 4D.  We’ll start out by going over how to set up your scene to get the flat 2D shading using the Cel Shader as well as how to set up your camera & lighting.  Then I’ll show you how to create the puff of smoke and how to animate it ‘poofing’ on and move on to cover how I animated the dissipation/animate off.  If you have any questions, be sure to hit me in the comments below!   Enjoy!

Learn how to apply this line art style look to your 3D objects using Sketch and Toon in this previous tutorial.

  • Hi C4d community, I’m new to C4d and modeling in general. I’m having problems modeling an old antique television monitor, the kind with the rounded cathode ray tube. Any help that might steer me in the right direction would be deeply appreciated.

  • Great tutorial! Following you on eyedesyn from no on EJ

  • His tutorials look cool but he never starts from scratch, Im learning C4D but i learn nothing if I can’t get to the point where he starts from 🙁

  • you wanna write puffs or poofs ?

  • Is it possible to do this in C4D Lite? I’m a complete beginner, and I can’t find the metaball thing, so I assume it’s not available in Lite…

I’m getting a quick single frame of outline only when I followed along with this tutorial. I’m admittedly green on sketch and toon so wasn’t sure if this was coming from a render order thing?
