How To Make A Dynamic Title Card In Cinema 4D
In this video, you will learn how to animate a dynamic title card in Cinema 4D using Dynamics, Cloners, Mograph, And the Variation Shader. Towards the end of the video, I will show you how I get these exact reflections and textures using HDRI Studio Rig and Topcoat.

Rockin those KRK’s
You Know it!
Great tut man! also, great reflection on your glasses! which HDRI did you use? π haha
Hehe. it’s my new Ring Light. I love it so far.
For a split second there, I though you we’re going to say: “…and I’M the Gorilla!” π
Fooled Ya!
Nice one ,)
Great tut, and bonus for uploading it to youtube..Runs smoother on the Ipad.
Thanks for watching, Kevin. Glad it’s playing better on Youtube!
How was the “coin spin” effect achieved on the Torus in the example?
It just naturally happened using high friction on the ground and dynamic clones. Pretty cool accidental animation. I LOVE Dynamics!!
very nice thank you
Thanks for the tut I’m pretty new to c4d. Quick question, how come when I add the material like you say it all renders in one colour? Even though the material is set up like yours? Thanks
I have the same problem. Exactly the same settings but still one color
Cool Tutorial…but when I’m trying the variation shader like you do, I don’t get variation. It keep showing just one color. How do I fix this?
Solved! HAHA, choose “Render Instances” in “Seed Mode” and works for me!
Is that an option is the Variation Shader? Let me know where you found that so I can help spread the news.
Hi Nick! Yes! Is in the Variation Shader map. I donΒ΄t know what that happen some times :S
Thanks Pebeto… That solved it. Weird it didn’t happened in the tutorial…?
By the way Nick: I loved this tutorial, pretty basic (but I’m just learning C4D) but a lot of cool tips and a very quick nice result which makes it fun to play with.
Thanks!
will this work in Broadcast? I know it doesn’t have the variation shader.
For the color variation you can substitute the variation shader for the Mograph color shader.
you are the best!!!
You can fix it with changing object variation Object to Render instances.
Cool Nick, but I have the same issue that JVL, I donΒ΄t get variation, just one color in final render :S
Awesome tut, Nick! Great fun to reproduce this! ?
However, there’s one issue I have here (C4D 17, educational version, so all features): very few of the little objects that fly around actually dive into the floor. Some just a few mm and only partly “below zero” and then they bounce back into the air. Others vanish completely after rolling for a while.
Is there some accuracy parameter (some calculation step increment or sim.) for the physics department I can adjust to avoid this?
Thanks so much!
Cheers,
Stefan (@metawops)
Try turning up your “Steps Per Frame” setting. Hit Command-D and click Dynamics and Expert. You will see it there.
Nick U inspired Ae from a tv show right . I got inspiration from you to learn c4d.
Here is my Recreation :

Learned a great deal of what I know from you…great teacher and designer.Awesome team over there, you guys inspire a great deal of people from all walks of life and backgrounds.
Hey Nick,
How did you preserve your vivid colors? I seem to loose a lot color (sun bleached)
when converting my renders to video.
Not sure what you mean. Can you post an example? Also, how did you make your video?
There was a step about changing Gradient Mode to Replace in the dropdown for the Variation Material. Go to 20:36 in the YouTube video.
My renders look amazing. But when I turn them into .avi (right click on render, save as animation to .avi) the video does not come out as vivid as the renders are.
Hi!
Nice tut as allways. It was nice to jump back to basic=fun stuff.
My version here:

Thx all GSG mentors
Got an problem here,
the variation shader is changing it’s object colours frame by frame, but just during the time the cloner spawns the objects. Didn’t found a solution yet.
somebody got any hints here?
yeay,
i used two cloners (one for the text objects and one for the falling objects) for this animation but just one Texture and this caused the problem π
just duplicated the texture and it’s fine!
Maybe this helps someone π
same problem – didn’t work for me though :
Is the “Variation” texture layer / shader available in R16? Not in mine. In a friend’s R17 Student edition, however, it *is* available.
So, maybe, you should change the “Compatible with” section for this brilliant tutorial, Nick … π
No, this is new feature in R17.
I believe he did mention that it might not be available on earlier versions but for a work around you can use the mograph color shader in conjunction with the random effector.
Dude! Nice work – this was a very thought out and well presented tutorial. Seems like you’ve upped your game on teaching. Very good pacing and explanation of everything especially texturing – showing the basic way then your way. Keep it up man!
Thanks, Brian. I really appreciate that comment. We are doing our best to teach and train the best way we can. Cheers!
I noticed some motion blur that looks very natural and smooth. Was that added in Cinema 4D? What setting can I find that under if that’s the case?
I used After Effects and RSMB to make the motion blur effect.
Hi Nick
I was struggling with you HDRI Rig. I put it in , set the AO Low and rendered …and every single form was black. I rewound your video again and again without finding the trick. I finally used the Fill Light from the Rig Console with about 80%.
But on the video you stay at 0%.
Hast it something to do with the material you used.
I’m using multi-shader and enable color on the random effecter
I’m using r16, HDRI Rig, Topcoat…and I’m pretty new to C4D π
Would be great if I’d understand why it didn’t work
In any case thx for the great tutorial(s)
I’m guessing that you put the Variation shader on your color channel instead of luminance? Good thinking with the fill light, though!
Exactly! Thank you for the hint.
Great Tutorial!!!
I’ve learned so much from you.
Thank you so much.
Excellent tutorial, and a lot of fun to see the results.
Just purely awesome tutorial. I can’t remember whenever i try to learn via normal tutorials but this one just got memorized so easily since you told each n everything.
Thank you so much.
Hey Guys!
Just a tip for anyone like me that has to deal with the Broadcast version of C4D, not sure if it translates to any other inferior versions but:
You have to use the Rigid Body Dynamics tag on the actual cloner object rather than the actual geometric object (it only allows rigid body on mograph objects). It all works the same, Also for the extra parts flying out, just duplicate the cloner and apply different parameters on it. As for Variation shader that Broadcast doesn’t have, just use the MoGraph “Multi shader” and manually select a bunch of different colors to use, then apply to the cloner objects. You then have to select the random effector you will use and turn on Color mode which will apply the multi shader to the clones.
I love all your tuts and plugins, thanks for sharing.
Iβve learned so much.
You are the best! π
Thanks for watching!
Hi Nick! Great thing to know there is this “variation shader”, but some how, mine dosen’t work right. After changing the “Gradient mode” to “replace” and the grandient blend bar turned grey. Thank you.
Forgot to say, and those color on the cloner objects are shown in one color.
I don’t have Variation shader? How Can I get the same effect with reflection and specular?
Hi Nick,
Great tut which was surprisingly easy to follow.
One (hopefully quick) question: Is there an easy way to make the clones come to a stop?
I’ve extended the scene I have but want the clones to stop bouncing and come to an natural stop way before the end of the timeline so that the scene is still. Thanks.
Perfect!! Many thanks Nick π
Loved this tutorial. Check out my version of it here. Couldn’t get the reflections for some reason but went with a different style instead (slightly).
Forgot the link lol https://vimeo.com/187735165
Why is the random gradient not changing?
I don`t know why, i just still try to chase your trial but not work.
Please let me know Nick please.
hey Nick How i can Generate the cloner from the top ?!
when i put material on cloner and make material variation shade the cubes and spheres render one color not vartiation
please help me what can i do
Hi,
I have C4d R18 Broadcast.
When I drop the rigid body tag on to my sphere, the dynamics tag is defaulting to the collision object mode and not the mode you get in the tutorial of full dynamics mode.
If i drop the tag onto the cloner I can see all the settings you get but still no effect on the spheres.
any suggestions?
thanks in advance.. waiting in frustration!
Also frustratingly just discovered that R18 Broadcast doesn’t have the variation shader!
can you suggest a work around?
