Setting Up The New Fluid Solver In X-Particles 3

May 11, 2015

In this tutorial, Nick will be showing you how to quickly get set up with the new FLIP Liquid Solver in X-Particles 3. Easily set up a fluid sim and texture it using the built in X-Particles material and Cinema 4D’s Hair engine. If you don’t have X-Particles you can get a 30 day demo here, or you can purchase a license from Greyscalegorilla, here.

I also mentioned Michael Rosen’s reference video about all the new Modifiers from X-Particles 3.0 in the video. Be sure to check it out.

looking forward to seeing the following tutorials as well, X-paricles 3 introduced a lot of stuff, like the gaseous shader that I have yet to get good results from. As usual you really help describe the flip deformer in terms even I can understand.

Wow, i felt the wait of the liquid sim as it flowed down the stairs. now time to watch the Tut

  • I felt like I was in a VanGogh painting or something, pretty cool particles.

  • Nick, is it possible to have a bottle for example instead of 4 walls ?

    • yes, all you have to do is add a X-particles Collider Tag to your container/objet and set collision bounce normals to “inside” 😉

  • Was banging my head against wall trying to figure out how to sim beer with bubbles etc. If anyone can crack this it would be awesome. My XP3 forum post here with examples from how far I was able to get with various techniques and results.

You’ll have to sign in to forum to see I think.

  • Nick, BTW happy to share C4D files if that helps jump start anything. Just let me know.

  • Please do more X-particles tuts with XP3! Here´s my texttosand animation…

  • Great tut works well but can we have one on setting up x-particles to get a great render in cinema please.

  • Do you think this can be used to animate the look of cloth strands? Still looking for a way to make it look like simon holmedal does when making the Nike videos

  • Nick, you da’ man! Thanks for what you do.

My machine can’t handle this number of particles. Please help.
    Firstly my machine is;
Mid 2010 MacPro 12 core 2.66 GHz Intel Xeon
    128GB Ram,
3x 1TB Solid State Hard drives,
+ AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB Graphics Cards.
    C4D R.18
    X-Particles 3.5

In your tut you seem to have no problem in the viewport but on my machine after my emitter gets to a few thousand particles everything slows down to minutes per frame.

Any clue what’s going on? Is there a setting I’ve not switched on?

  • Hii Nick first of all great tutorial. I always learn something new in your tutorials, so thank’s. I’m looking for the “move-over-surface” Modifier to make the Daredevil intro (It’s all liquid stuff very very cool) but i can’t find it in this version of XParticles. Any idea?

    Thank you
PD: Maybe you can make a tutorial about it or something
