Everything That's Changed with Greyscalegorilla Plus (and What Hasn't)

What the heck is going on at Greyscalegorilla? Fair question. Maybe you noticed the Greyscalegorilla Plus branding is gone and you're wondering what that means for your subscription. Maybe someone mentioned Cargo and you have no idea what that is. Maybe you're wondering where Studio went, or why your plugins aren't where they used to be, or what KitBash has to do with any of this.

A lot changed in a short amount of time and we haven't done a great job explaining it. Here's the full picture.

First, We Want to Own Something

We've put you through a lot of workflow changes in a short amount of time. You used to install everything through the Greyscalegorilla HUB. Then we asked you to switch to Greyscalegorilla Studio. Now we're asking you to move to Cargo.

That's three transitions. We know that's a lot to ask of people who are just trying to get work done. It's disruptive to change workflows, and we don't take that lightly.

Each of those tools served you well and we're proud of what we built with them. But as Greyscalegorilla has grown, we needed a foundation that could grow with it. Cargo is that foundation. We're not planning to move you again.

We Merged with KitBash3D

Greyscalegorilla and KitBash3D are now the same company, which means you get access to two of the most-used asset libraries in 3D from one place. More assets, more variety, one platform.

Your subscription works exactly the same. What changes is what's possible from here. Two great catalogs coming together means more content, more tools, and more of what you actually need to get work done.

Wait, What Happened to Greyscalegorilla Plus?

It's still what you're buying. We just dropped the "Plus" from the name. Same subscription, same access, same everything. If our older videos still say Greyscalegorilla Plus, that's the same thing. We haven't updated every video yet, but nothing about your subscription changed.

Here's What Each Subscription Includes

There are three tiers and it's worth knowing exactly what you're getting with each one.

Greyscalegorilla Library (formerly Greyscalegorilla Plus): Access to the full Greyscalegorilla asset library, HDRIs, and all plugins and scripts.

Everything Bundle: Everything in the Greyscalegorilla tier, plus the full KitBash3D asset library.

KitBash3D Library: Access to the KitBash3D asset library. Does not include Greyscalegorilla plugins, scripts, or HDRIs.

If you're on the Greyscalegorilla tier and don't want to see KitBash3D assets in your library, use the library filter in Cargo to show only Greyscalegorilla assets. It's a quick way to keep your workspace focused on what's included in your subscription.

If you're not sure which tier you're on, sign into Cargo and check your account. If something looks off, reach out to support.

What Even is Cargo? What Happened to 1.0 and 2.0?

Cargo isn't new. KitBash3D users have been using it for years to browse, download, and manage their assets. It's a platform with a real track record. When Greyscalegorilla and KitBash3D came together, it made sense to bring everything under Cargo rather than maintain separate systems.

Versions 1.0 and 2.0 were built for the KitBash3D side of things. Cargo 3.0 is the first version built for everyone, Greyscalegorilla subscribers included. It was a joint effort between both teams, bringing together what each side knew about their users to build something better than either could have made alone. It's where you browse and download assets, swap HDRIs into your scene, and install plugins and scripts. One app for all of it.

Why Does Everything Keep Sending Me to Cargo?

We hear this one a lot. You came looking for Studio, or for a download, or just to get a plugin, and everything pointed you to Cargo instead.

That's intentional on our end, but we know it doesn't always feel that way. Cargo is where everything lives now. When you follow a link to download assets or install tools, it routes to Cargo because that's the right destination. But if you didn't know that yet, it just feels like you're being pushed somewhere unfamiliar for no reason.

If you've been a long-time Studio user, this is the thing to know: Cargo is the new Studio. Not a different product for different content. The same library, the same tools, the same assets. All in one app that does more. We should have said that louder and sooner, and we're saying it now.

Studio is still available while we finish the transition, but new downloads, new installs, and new projects should all go through Cargo.

If you haven't made the switch yet, this is the place to start. Cargo is your one-stop place to get everything in your membership: browse and download assets, and install plugins and scripts, all from a single app. Take a quick look at how it works.

So is Studio Dead?

Studio isn't gone overnight, but yes, Cargo is where everything is headed. Most of what you used in Studio is already in Cargo, and we're actively bringing the rest over. Some Studio features that people loved aren't there yet and we know it. We're working through it. Studio did its job well, and Cargo is where we're taking that forward.

Where Are My Plugins and Scripts?

They're in Cargo now. Head to the Tool page in the left sidebar and you'll find everything available to install. If something you're expecting isn't there yet, it's on its way. Learn more here. Learn more here.

Can I use Assets I Already Downloaded from the HUB or Studio in Cargo?

The short answer is no. Cargo manages its own downloads separately from what the HUB or Studio put on your machine. Our recommendation is to start fresh with Cargo when you kick off a new project. Download what you need through Cargo and build from there.

We know that's not a fun answer. But a clean slate means everything is in the right place and Cargo can manage it properly going forward.

For plugins and scripts, there is a one-time step to remove the HUB folder before Cargo can take over.

The Short Version

More assets. Your tools in one place. Your subscription is intact. We're still building and we're not going to pretend otherwise, but we're building something worth switching to.

If something isn't where you expect it or something stopped working, reach out. We'll get it sorted.
