Glass Too Dark in Cinema 4D? Here's the Fix
Downloaded a glass material only to have it look almost black in your scene? The fix is simpler than you might think. In this quick tip, Nick Campbell explains why it happens and the one setting that gets your glass looking the way it was meant to.

If you've ever applied a glass material and wondered why it suddenly looks much darker than the preview, don't worry, nothing's wrong with the material.
Glass materials react differently depending on the thickness of the object they're applied to. Since these materials are calibrated for real-world glass thickness, applying them to a much thicker object will naturally produce a darker, more saturated appearance.
The fix is easy. Open the material settings and adjust the Depth (cm) value in the Standard Material. Increasing the depth makes the glass appear clearer on thicker objects, while lower values create richer, more saturated color. A few quick adjustments are usually all it takes to dial in the look you're after.
As a bonus, Nick also recommends enabling caustics to get even more realistic results from your glass materials. Watch the quick tip above to see the setting in action and start getting better-looking glass in just a few clicks.
