Studio Now Solves For Bad UVs and Supports Substance Painter!

Studio—the Greyscalegorilla desktop app—makes it easy to send 3D assets directly into your projects in Cinema 4D, Blender, Houdini, Unreal Engine, and now Adobe Substance Painter.

The Studio app 1.2 update is here, and we think you’re going to love it. Why? Because it makes working with Materials in Plus easier than ever before.

We’ve also upgraded search to make it more intuitive, added customizable image-preview sizing, and given users a handy right-click menu designed to keep them in your flow.

Let’s explore what’s new, shall we?

Studio Now Solves For Bad UVs and Supports Substance Painter! - Triplanar

Send with Triplanar Mapping

Triplanar mapping is a 3D rendering technique that projects a texture onto an object from three directions (X, Y, and Z axes) to avoid visible seams and distortions, often used for irregularly shaped objects.

If you are familiar with projection mapping, you can see the seams in the image above. With Triplanar, the projections end up blending together smoothly and beautifully? That’s Triplanar at work.

Ultimately, the main benefit of Triplanar is found in situations that involve no UVs, bad UVs, or heavily distorted UVs.

And in Studio, the new Send With Triplanar function is a one-click automatic gamechanger. It makes applying any and all materials to objects easy and completely hassle-free, no matter your 3D application. The Send with Triplanar feature is available for Cinema 4D, Blender, Houdini and Adobe Substance Painter!

The Send with Triplanar feature is exclusive to the Studio app, and is not compatible with the Plus HUB.

Studio Now Solves For Bad UVs and Supports Substance Painter! - Painter Beta

Support for Adobe Substance Painter

Greyscalegorilla just introduced Beta support for the powerful Substance Painter app. This Creative Cloud add-on is part of the Adobe Substance 3D Collection that lets you “paint” on top of 3D models and materials.

Currently, you can send Greyscalegorilla materials directly into Substance Painter (including the Send with Triplanar feature) with one click. Then you can paint and manipulate materials to add your own creative flair.

Welcome to the family, Adobe Substance users!
