BEEPLE

Beeple (aka Mike Winkleman) is a designer based in Charleston, SC. He is most well-known as one of the originators of the ‘everyday’ movement (where he has now actively crafted images every day for over 12 years,) and he also does a variety of digital artwork ranging from Creative Commons VJ loops, short films, and VR/AR work, and concert visuals for Justin Bieber, One Direction, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Zedd, deadmau5 and many more. His style is insane, but even the most insane artists need a palette to work from.

JESS HERRERA

Jess is a 3D designer based in Australia. She is frequently known as Herrerasaurus online, and you should know that is an actual dinosaur! While she has worked for studios in the past, these days she is living the freelance life. If you look at her work, you will see she has a distinct style all her own. Rather than falling into a generalist category, she has remained trued to her style and garnered quite the following.

NICK DENBOER

Nick (aka Smearballs) is, in his own words, a

“director / editor / animator / remixer / music producer / one man video army from Toronto, Canada.  I make videos for TV, web, advertising, film and specialize in a unique style of comedy loaded with VFX.”

How often do you change up your workspace?

I don’t change my startup layout very often but I have secondary layouts that I change from time to time, or add new ones. I made a new workspace for weight painting recently, one for when I work on hair. So I just make different layouts for different tasks rather than cluttering up my startup layout.

EJ HASSENFRATZ

EJ is the infamous creator of Eyedesyn, that hub of C4D tutorials and plug-ins. In a refreshing shift from who you normally see, he has never worked in a major design studio, instead pushing himself hard to teach himself all things C4D and developing his particular style of loveable, squishable 3D objects. He is also the Creative Director in charge of 3D curriculum over at School of Motion.

If there was one thing you wish you could add to your workspace, but can’t, what would it be?

The “make it pop” button – clients would love that!

AARON COVRETT

Aaron is a 3D artist focusing on texturing and look development. He is currently based in Los Angeles, where he has worked on a wide range of projects from high end commercial work for Xfinity and Squarespace to personal work where he explores new techniques such as photogrammetry. He is very interested in the confluence of one’s creative approach with technical applications.

How often do you change up your workspace?

I change my workspace depending on the task. Modeling or Layout, Lookdev, or setting the Final render. I’ve never changed much, but simply shifting screen-space priority for the task at hand. Having a wide monitor allows me a big enough playground.

Chad Ashley

Fueled by a passion for design (and copious amounts of coffee,) Greyscalegorilla’s very own creative director digs in to meticulously create materials and texture maps that help nail that final render. If you take a minute, he will also tell you exactly why you should be using ACES color for all your rendering, then he’ll get back to dreaming up tools for that help our customers spend more time purely creating. With a pause to wax poetic over mid-century color palettes.

NICK CAMPBELL

Last but certainly not least, we have the original Greyscalegorilla himself, Nick Campbell. What started as some YouTube tutorials from an obsessive learner over a decade ago has become company that creates some of the finest plugins and assets for 3D artists. And don’t worry, there is still training, too, from a ton of the industry’s top professionals. But Nick always has time to dive into C4D and noodle about to test our products and frankly, just have a little fun.

Thanks for exploring with us

Hopefully you had fun…and learned a thing or two from these fine artists’ workspaces. More giveaways and goodies (think icon packs and example files) are headed toward Plus this year. Because, frankly, 2021 just HAS to be better than 2020. Wouldn’t you agree?

Wishing you all a safe, happy (and healthy) new year!
